Antonio Barceló stands in naval uniform above a rough stone pedestal beside Santa Creu church in Palma. Known locally as Capità Toni, he began his working life aboard his father’s vessel, carrying goods and royal mail between Mallorca and the mainland. His skill at sea brought him an extraordinary rise through the naval ranks, becoming a lieutenant general in 1783. The monument recalls the maritime history of a neighbourhood closely connected with sailors and fishermen.
