In the past, the Majorcans utilized natural coastal features to store their boats, carving out protective niches directly in the cliffs along the shoreline. These simple, yet effective boat sheds, locally known as "escars," provided a convenient and secure storage option, shielding the wooden vessels from the harsh maritime weather. The design allowed fishers and sailors to easily drag their boats into the dry, while the overhanging rock acted as a natural barrier against wind and sun.
